Legacy Sportfishing Overview About

Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Fishing Charters

Our Fishing Seasons . Lake Ontario, the world famous Great Lake, offers some of the best fishing for trout and salmon in the entire world. For us the fishing season begins, on the water, right around April 1st. At this time of year, reports from Lake Ontario fishing charters begin rolling in from all across the lake. This early in the season, we concentrate our efforts on the warm water close to shore as we fish the shallow water thermal bar which is created from the tributaries dumping warm water into the lake. Our main focus is on catching hungry Brown Trout. There is always the chance of other fish in the mix including the possibility of a spring King Salmon catching “you” by surprise. In May and June, as the water temperature increases and the lake begins it's transition phase, we move a little more offshore and enjoy increasing catches of King Salmon, Coho Salmon, and Lake Trout. In the summer months of July and August, with a thermocline established, our main target becomes King Salmon but the offshore Steelhead fishing can be equally exciting. As September arrives we target large mature salmon beginning to stage for their spawning run and can be found very close to port in shallow water. The offshore fishing this time of year remains very consistent with catches of both trout and juvenile salmon. Whether we're dragging the boards on the beach looking for those football Brown Trout, lighting the riggers up on a hot Coho bite, flat lining sticks for offshore Steelhead, or experiencing a King Salmon screaming on a wire diver rod, we will always give 110% to put you on the fish.

"Often I have been exhausted on trout streams, uncomfortable, wet, cold, briar scarred, sunburned, mosquito bitten, but never, with a fly rod in my hand have I been less than in a place that was less than beautiful."
