Had an Outstanding hunt at Down Home Ranch Guest House!!! The house was beautiful and everything was in great working order and well stocked. Bud and Sandy are great people and were up front with everything.. The ranch and its leased property were loaded with lots of Merriam's turkey and my tags were filled in a total of 3 hours. The birds worked great in terrible conditions! Saw tons of Mule Deer, Whitetails and even some elk sign. In that area of the country there are few creeks and rivers, that is why wells and cattle tanks are used The only thing I can say negative about the hunt is that mother nature was alittle harsh on us. I would recommend DHGRH to anyone who is looking for a self-guided turkey hunt or even a deer hunt as there were plenty seen everyday I went sight seeing after I'd harvested my birds.
Deceitful. Paid to hunt 1200 acres. About 100 acres was huntable to Merriam's turkeys. Outdated guest house looked nothing like the pics on the website. 3 days into our hunt, Bud and Sandy decided to tack on an extra game fee of $200 per bird randomly, although this was never in writing or even mentioned prior to is driving 2400 miles for this hunt. Not one drop of water on the property as far as creeks or rivers. It did not hold many turkeys. Highly discourage anyone from this for turkey hunting. I could've stayed home and hunted half as hard and killed multiple Easterns.
Did I mention no running water when we showed up after 1200 mile drive? No discount was ever offered due to this. Water was fixed the next day. Also, the rancher would just stop in and come into the house that we had rented whenever he pleased...this was everyday. Lastly, he said he had blinds for us to use. Have fun turkey hunting in old blinds that were thrown into a shed and torn to shreds...great backlighting for a good turkey hunt...what a joke
