Capt. Joe Shute's Bait and Tackle has been in business since 1991.  In January of 2013, the business was sold to long time employee Matthew Zook.  Matt began working in the shop in 2002 in the afternoon's stocking shelves, bagging items, and making rigs until he later became manager of the business in 2007.

Matt is a Carteret County native and son of Capt. Pete Zook, a long time captain in the area.  Matt has been raised on the water and spent most of his childhood either fishing or on the local waterfront where his father runs a charter boat.   He spent many years learning different rigging methods and local fishing secrets from the captains and mates. 

At Capt. Joe's he has been able to share his knowledge and experience with the public.  As owner of the shop he will be focusing more time on teaching the secrets of fishing the local waters.  He will be stocking all the proper tools to CATCH MORE FISH!
