Hallelujah! It flat out dumped last night and this morning. We received at least a foot of very wet snow down to the 7000 foot elevation. The clouds and stormy weather gave Ron Obray and I advantage over the amazing cutthroat that are currently holding in the Upper Owens River. He crushed them today using "ham & eggs" below an under-cator. (SJ worm and crystal eggs). The feeder roads are, & will be a mess for anything besides a high profile 4X4 vehicle for a while. This is the best snap I have ever seen for large cutthroat trout on the UO. Truly spectacular fish. Flows down to 175cfs. on the Middle Owens near Bishop. Doug Rodricks took Keith Roberts drifting to avoid the poor weather on Crowley. They did very well using Spruce-A-Bu streamers. I guess this fish had massive fangs so Dougie Fresh is using a heavy glove to avoid teeth marks :) This storm was much more substantial than forecast, especially in the upper elevations. The roads that have been plowed are in good shape. We will see some run-off in the local free stone creeks, Hot Creek, & the Upper Owens, and the West Walker River for sure when it warms up. The East Walker has also been bumped up to 117cfs. Watch the hike into Hot Creek, it will be slippery. Crowley will be back on the bite after a couple days of snotty weather.
