PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE DISTRIBUTION Updates from the Blue Marlin World Cup! A New Deadline for Entries Highlights the Recent Changes Palm Beach, FL: With just three months remaining until the 2016 Blue Marlin World Cup, there are several important updates the directors wish to share with the participants as well as the general offshore fishing community. The first and most important is the registration deadline. This year, all teams must be registered and paid in full by no later than 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on July 2, 2016. Tournament director Capt. Robert “Fly” Navarro noted that 23 boats signed up for last year’s World Cup on the final day before the July 4 kickoff of fishing, but he urges teams not to delay this year. With the new deadline, it’s going to be very important to get everyone registered before teams start fishing. If you’re interested in participating in this year’s World Cup, please let us know as soon as possible. Early registrations are on par at this point in the season with Bermuda and Hawaii already represented. A larger fleet of participating boats means more prize money, so it really helps everyone to spread the word about the tournament. The tournament will also make a concerted effort to generate additional teams on the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico, two regions that are well-known for big blue marlin, but areas that do not receive as much publicity as other “big fish” destinations around the world. Navarro will be attending the Orange Beach Billfish Classic in Orange Beach, Alabama this year as well as The Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament in Morehead City, North Carolina to promote the World Cup and sign up teams on the spot. There will also be brochures on the World Cup in the captain’s bags in each tournament. Another important aspect of the World Cup is the explosive growth of its social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Social media is an excellent way to communicate the activities of a worldwide event like the World Cup. Participants are invited to become more involved with social media to stay apprised of all things “Blue Marlin World Cup.” Send us your photos, not just during the tournament but before and after, and we will help spread the word about who’s fishing this event. Photos can be shared in a variety of ways: via text message to Navarro directly, by email ([email protected]), and by ‘tagging’ the Blue Marlin World Cup on Instagram and Facebook. If you’re not already following the Blue Marlin World Cup, you’re invited to join any of these social media platforms in order to receive updates, news, photos and results from the event. Virtual spectators are also welcome to join in the fun by following the action, cheering for your favorite teams and being a part of sport fishing’s most unique billfish tournament. The overall schedule for the Blue Marlin World Cup remains unchanged: teams will have the opportunity to fish for eight hours in their respective time zones around the world on July 4, 2016 in a winner-take-all format for blue marlin only. The largest fish will be declared the winner as long as it exceeds the tournament’s self-imposed minimum size of 500 pounds. In addition to the winner take all tournament prize money, there is additional excitement and prize money available for those participants who also enter the Big Blue Challenge.
