The Cumberland River continues to produce big fish – catch and release policies work! I had the great pleasure of taking Jeff Arrasmith (a Cumberland Lake guide I work with) and his good friend Jeff Ward on the Cumberland River Tuesday in TN (we can use Trout for bait in TN!). It was a beautiful morning on the water. Then (as usual) “Kapow” a huge Striper ate a big Trout early in the morning and took off flying and we had our first fish of the day on! Jeff Ward battled the fish in that measured right at 39 inches. A quick photo and back in the water she went flying off! Not to be out done, about an hour later we heard a huge splash and “Kabam” we had a much heavier fish hit that took 50 feet of drag in 10 seconds with the reel complaining like an irate Duke B Ball fan! Jeff Arrasmith battled this big 41 inch super fat fish for a long time, finally getting her to the boat and we landed her! A quick photo of the big 30 pound plus fish and we released her to swim quickly away to fight another day! Video coming! As fall rolls on it will just get better and better! I WOULD ASK THAT YOU TAKE A MOMENT TO READ ALL OF this and say a prayer for the Regan family. My friend EC Reagan died today. He was 86 years old. EC was a true Dale Hollow legend. He was “Mr. Muskie” and still holds all the records for the most Muskie ever caught over 40 inches (the last time we talked about I believe it was 55 - I have attached a photo of just a few of them!). He knew more about fishing then anyone I ever met. Tens of thousands of Dale Hollow Walleyes fell to his techniques over the many decades. Yet, EC was a humble and God fearing man. EC was a genuine Southern Gentleman with a very dry wit. As a Korean War veteran as a Bazooka Man, EC served his country with great honor. As new neighbors 4 years back when we moved in, he and his wife Jo welcomed my wife Jerri and I to the neighborhood. To get a chance to know him, I am forever grateful. My fondest memories of EC are the many afternoons we spent watching westerns together. I would look down and we would both inadvertently be tapping our feet to the same rhythm as we listening to the “Rolling - Rolling - Rolling” beginning song to Raw Hide (how funny!). I loved him dearly and will miss him terribly, but I know he is in a better place. I pray strength and faith to his with of 66 years Jo and the entire Regan family. Captain Jim Durham
