Choosing a fly rod and line for Montana:
The most commonly used rod / line combinations for catching trout in southwestern Montana is 9 to 9.5 feet, 5 or even better, a 6 weight ~ loaded with a weight forward floating line. A sinking tip line is a nice addition to fishing streamers but not absolutely necessary.
